March has arrived!

Hello Families!

I just cannot get over the fact that it is March.  I hope you saw my letter telling you about the DSTP being this week.  This is your child’s first year to participate in the Delaware Student Testing Program.  We will take the math portion on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  The reading tests are on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The children have been prepared.  We hope they show us on the test the good work they do for us each and every day.   Try to keep your child calm about it.  It’s just another day at the office, so to speak. :)

The children very much benefit from an early bedtime (8:00-8:30) and a good breakfast, fuel for the brain.  If your child has a “tummyache”  in the morning, use all your parent powers to get them to the school.  Hopefully, we can help to calm the nerves and get them settled.  If you believe your child to be truly sick, do not send him/her,the test sessions are too long to try to tough it out.  You want your child at his/her best while taking the test.  Thank you for all of the support you give your child throughout the school year.  It helps your child and the teachers more than you know.

Where does the time go?

It is unbelievable to me that November will soon be over.   It is my hope that you will be able to see family and friends for Thanksgiving.  Life gets so busy we are not always able to take the time needed to nurture these relationships.  Relax and have fun!  The Thanksgiving Family Scavenger Hunt is meant for fun while you are waiting to for the turkey to finish.

Apple Mania!

I have been meaning to tell you this story…

Your wonderful children have been bringing me apples after lunch each day since early in the year.  One person started it and then several others joined in.  I was not having to shop for apples for my family.  :)   One evening I was explaining to my family how I acquired so many apples.  I, of course, was bragging about how much my students already loved me.  Well, burst my bubble!   In true middle school fashion, my oldest says, “Mom, you know they might just be avoiding eating their fruit!”  A fact, I refused to believe! Not my sweet students!  Couldn’t be!!  They definitely love me!  By the way, I have gently explained to them how thankful I was, but that just could not keep up with their generosity.  This class is FULL of cheerful givers and kind hearts.  Thank you for sharing them with me.

Week of October 1

Filed under: Did You Know? — jloporter at 4:10 pm on Monday, October 1, 2007

We will not be reading a story this week, which means we also do not have a spelling list.  We have finished the first five stories in our book, Theme One.  We take a week off to do theme testing.  Testing takes a while at the beginning of the year, as we show the students how we expect them to answer the questions.

The students will be having homework, just not spelling.

Please remember that the children should be reading 15 minutes each night, even if it is not in their agenda book.

It was my pleasure to get to meet so many of you at Open House.  I am looking forward to a terrific year with your child.  Please know that I consider us partners in your child’s life.  If you ever have any questions or concerns, I am accessible by phone, email & agenda book on a daily basis.  Have a great weekend!  It’s supposed to beautiful.
